6 Reasons Why Lullahug Is the #1 Carrier for Grandparent Daycare in 2026

Most carriers are built for two people to fit — one wearing it, one clipping it. Lullahug is built for the one who's on their own with the baby all day. It goes over your head in one motion, holds them close, and takes the weight off your back, shoulders and wrists.

Note: Reason #1 is the one nobody says out loud…

1. I Put It On Myself. In Five Seconds.

Here's the part I never admitted: I'd stopped offering to carry him. Not because I didn't want to — because my daughter's carrier has four straps, two clips and a buckle behind your back. I'd stand there while she fitted it on me like I was a child.

Then Monday comes around and it's just me and him until six o'clock. Nobody there to clip anything.

This one goes over the head. That's the whole thing. I lift it, I settle him in, I pull one strap. I don't have to wait for anyone.

2. I Can Hold Her Longer Than Ten Minutes Now

With my arms, I'd last about ten minutes before I handed him back. Everyone pretends that's normal. It isn't — it's the shoulders and the wrists taking all of it.

Lullahug spreads the weight three ways — across the shoulder, the waist and the hip, instead of hanging it all off one arm. I sat with him asleep on me for forty minutes and didn't want to move. I'd forgotten that was something I could do.

3. It Fits Me and My Husband

He's a foot taller than me. With every other carrier, swapping meant ten minutes of re-threading straps in the middle of the sidewalk.

This adjusts from 55cm to 88cm with one pull. He hands her over, I pull the strap, we keep walking. One carrier, both of us, no fuss.

4. I Assumed Something This Good Cost Over $100

I've bought the expensive ones. They sat in the closet because I couldn't work them on my own. I'd rather spend nothing than spend a lot on something that makes me feel useless.

This was $24.98 for each. I bought two — one that lives at my house, one that lives at theirs. So there's never a scramble to find it before a walk.

5. The Safety Loop Is What Convinced My Daughter

She wasn't going to leave me alone all day with the baby in something she hadn't inspected. Fair enough — I'd have been the same at her age.

She checked it herself: a safety loop locks over the buckle so nothing comes unclipped by accident, and the seat cups around him so he stays settled against me instead of shifting. She looked at it, she nodded, she went to work. That nod was worth more than any of it.

6. I Thought It Was Only for Young Parents

That's what stopped me looking for years. Everything in the store is photographed on somebody in their twenties at a farmers market.

Then I read the reviews. Grandmothers. Grandfathers. Retired sitters. All saying the thing I'd been thinking: I just want to carry them without asking permission or asking for help.

Didn't have to ask my son-in-law for help

That's the honest reason I bought it. Their carrier has a buckle behind the back and I couldn't reach it. So every Tuesday I'd stand in the kitchen waiting for someone to do me up.

This one I put over my head at the door and I'm out. Took me three tries the first morning and after that it was automatic.

Good, but read the instructions properly first

I'll be fair — my first attempt the strap was twisted and it sat wrong on my shoulder. I nearly sent it back. My daughter watched the video with me and it turned out I'd been pulling the wrong side.

Second day, no bother. Four stars because the instruction card is small print and I'm 71. Not because of the sling.

Thank you Patricia — you're right, and we're reprinting the card in larger type. In the meantime the step-by-step video is linked on your order confirmation email.

My husband and I share the one sling

I'm 5'3" and he's 6'2". I expected a fight over the straps every time. It's one pull to change it over — we did it standing on the sidewalk outside the library.

Weight sits on the shoulder and the hip rather than dragging on the one arm. I walked him around the block twice and my wrist was fine, which it never is.

My daughter inspected it before she'd let me use it

She's careful, and I don't blame her. She checked the loop over the buckle and had a good look at how the seat sits. Then she said fine.

That was the bit I actually needed. Not the sling — the nod.

Keep one at each house

Got two on the offer. One stays in my hall cupboard, one lives in their pram bag. No more driving back for it, which happened twice with the last carrier.

Washed mine after a yoghurt incident. Came out fine.
